An Excerpt

“You were very vulnerable up there,”
he said in a distant but fatherly way.
It was the perfect way to describe
what we’d all just witnessed,
and I wished I’d thought of it first
even though it wouldn’t have meant anything
coming from me.
She smiled and gave an automatic
but genuine reply,
her thoughts still focused on
whether she was flushed
and whether everyone could see
her sweating.
No one saw a thing.
All they saw was her beauty,
her vulnerability,
her honesty.
She was stunning.
And she hadn’t even read
the whole story.
